Otoplasty in Fort Myers, Florida

Cosmetic ear surgery is most often performed for children between age 4 and 14, though many adults finally decide to take charge of their ear appearance and seek surgical correction as well. Most of the Florida ear surgery patients at Gardner Plastic Surgery are surprised by how little discomfort they have following the procedure, and are back to work or school in about a week.

Your Ear Surgery Procedure

To correct protruding ears, Dr. Gardner first makes a small incision behind each ear to access the ear cartilage. By reshaping and removing parts of this cartilage, he is able to position the ear closer to the head. This surgery can be completed in 1 to 2 hours in most cases. Young children usually need general anesthesia so they can rest comfortably through the procedure, while local anesthesia is fine for most adults. After Florida ear surgery, the ears are bandaged, and patients will need to wear an elastic headband to protect the ears and help hold them in place for about 2 weeks.

Otoplasty also can improve the appearance of ears marred by birth defects or injury. During your visit to our office, Dr. Gardner will evaluate your ears and explain more about exactly how your surgery will be performed.
